We drink grapes all the time, so why is this beverage different? It’s not wine. The grapes are muddled in this mojito-style cocktail. It’s delicious to drink and lovely to the eye. You can make these in batches, surround the glasses with grapes, and have a visual display that starts your cocktail party with pizazz.

I did not rim the glass with powdered sugar this time. I wanted to taste the grapes and pisco without additional sweetness.

It’s a gorgeous drink, from every perspective. The proportions here are for one small cocktail. The volume you see in the photo is from doubling which I recommend.

San Vincente Crush

Yield: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 lemon wedge
  • Powdered sugar for rim garnish
  • 5 seedless red grapes
  • 1 heaping tablespoon torn fresh basil
  • 2 ounces pisco
  • ¾ ounce lemon juice
  • ¾ ounce simple syrup

Preparation:

Wet the rim of a martini glass with a lemon wedge, then dip it into a small plate of powdered sugar. Set aside. Muddle the grapes and torn basil in the bottom of a mixing glass until the juice from the grapes has been extracted. Add the pisco, lemon juice and simply syrup. Add ice and shake hard. Strain into the rimmed martini glass. Garnish with the basil leaf.
