Rachel de Thample has this lovely book, Vital Tonics & Soothing Teas, filled with quite British beverage ideas. She notes that in prior centuries, doctors used to carry jars of cayenne pepper for cardiac emergencies. That’s why you make this beverage with just ¼ teaspoon of cayenne. If you drink this and are not yet fully awake, you will be.
It’s intense. And you may be adjusted the amount of pepper or lime juice. Maybe more honey?
