Last year I reviewed the Cocktail Cookbook by Oskar Kinberg, a brilliant book of cocktail sophistication. Oskar says this one beverage is his favorite in the entire book: a marriage of rum, milk, sugar, banana and, yes, a fig leaf. That fig leave provides a flavor, not of fig, but coconut, just a hint of coconut.
I know, it is winter and this beverage might seem summery [think banana milkshake], but it is also time each weekend to watch the trek to the Super Bowl. This is a happy way to celebrate that journey. Banana up! Sit back, watch, cheer, and go for a first down and second pour.
Adam and Eve Banana Cocktail
Yield: 1 beverage
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ fluid ounces Diplomatico Anejo or other aged rum
- 8 fluid ounces milk
- 1 ⅔ounces simple syrup
- ½ banana
- ½ fig leaf
- Banana crisp for garnish
Preparation:
Blend all ingredients in a blender on high speed for 15 seconds. Add a small scoop of crushed ice and blend for 5 more seconds. The ice will melt and chill the drink. Pour the drink through a fine sieve directly into your serving glass to remove the bits of fig leaf.
