Earlier today I wrote about the family of Malfy gins, just the best gins I have ever tasted. I’m having fun trying out each member of the family — original, lemon, grapefruit, and blood orange — and inventing new cocktail ideas.
Here’s my first shot and it was a success: all our dinner party guests last Saturday sampled and applauded. It’s a simple cocktail to make and it comes in two versions: with and without honey syrup.
To make the honey syrup, put equal amounts — say half a cup — of water and honey in a saucepan. If you have honey that has hardened up a bit, this is the perfect way to use it. On medium heat, keep stirring and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, simmer for two minutes, allow to cool, and bottle for the fridge.
Here’s the cocktail. I like the honey syrup version. The syrup is that little glass of brown liquid in the background there in the photo.
